About this site

Dalen Codes is a casual place for me to drop my thoughts, feelings, notes about coding and journey of being a solo developer. There might be occasional tutorials or code snippets about things I found useful, tools or implementations I built for myself. It will probably be mostly focused on Kotlin and Compose Multiplatform but with some occasional thoughts on Swift and SwiftUI. Overall it is going to be a pretty casual and infrequent newsletter as I start out.

About Me

I’m a mostly self-taught software developer. I studied computer science in college for a few years before leaving to work in the telecommunications industry, where I installed and maintained computer networks, fiber optics, structured cabling, phone systems, and security and access control systems.

I realized I missed building things and the kind of problem-solving that comes with software development, so I decided to relearn how to code after more then a decade away. I started with Swift and SwiftUI, experimented briefly with Flutter, and eventually ported a SwiftUI app to Android using Jetpack Compose. After seeing how well Compose worked, I decided to go all-in on Compose Multiplatform.

Today, my focus is building real apps, exploring Kotlin and Compose Multiplatform, and sharing some of my learnings along the way.
